Virtual Shopping & Styling…How It Works.

Our new normal of social distancing has made virtual personal shopping a realistic way to still have access to the expertise of a personal shopper and stylist. And A lot of my clients who don’t like shopping, are actually excited they can do this without entering a store!

Whether its shopping to update your wardrobe, shopping for a special occasion or creating a new look completely, its all done from the comfort of your own home, and Its actually very easy and organized.

After completing a form and then a phone consultation of your desired needs, I create a “shoppable” board where clothing or accessories can be ordered directly through the links on the board to your home. The nice thing about the “shoppable” board is that we can also see examples of how to style some of the pieces and then create our own outfits that can be saved online for future reference.

Once your packages arrive, a try on session via face-time is scheduled. From there we can see what works and return what doesn’t. And since we have access to everything in your closet, we can also use clothing and accessories you already own to create outfits with the new clothing.

In a world where our personal time is so limited, virtual personal shopping allows us to shop at any store in the world, at any time and no time is wasted traveling to and between stores because its all done from the comfort of your home. Virtual Shopping maybe something that continues even after Covid is over, who knows? You can find pricing for virtual shopping on my services page. Look Forward to shopping with you soon!

Super Chic for Super Cheap Outfit

IMG_6980.jpg

I love when I can put together a look that is Super chic and incorporates all the top trends of the season for super cheap.. The most expensive piece  in this outfit is the blazer for $188, but all the other pieces are under $100,  and my best find shoes are only $34.

IMG_6979.jpgVelvet is one of the “it” fabrics of the fall.  I always love a blazer to complete any look.  This Velvet blazer from J Crew is a great fit for a day or night look.

Sunglasses are an inexpensive way to change your look.  These cat eye shape sunnies are the hot shape for fall and at Zara you can have them for $25.90.

IMG_6969.jpg

I am a huge fan of leather pants for the fall and winter.  They look so great as a day time look with a sweater and of course so hot with a cute top s night.  Velvet By Graham & Spencer Faux Leather Legging ins black are the perfect alternative to leather pants which can easily be $900 and up.

Lastly one of my better finds for this season are thse boots.  Everyone knows I am obsessed with a leopard print and thats why I am obsessed with these boots from Forever 21 which are only $34!!! Love this entire look and the best part is that all of these pieces can be mixed with other clothes in my wardrobe to create other super chic looks for super cheap.

How To Create A Personal Style

Your wardrobe is a huge part of how people perceive you.  So how do you create a wardrobe that represents your personal style.

The first step in creating a stylish wardrobe is obtaining the wardrobe staples. These are the basic pieces that will be able to mix and match and go with more personal and trendy items.  Things such as a black blazer, black pants, day jeans, night jeans, white button down, white tee shirt, black pumps etc…Once you have most of the staple items you need to establish what looks best on your body.  What areas of the body do we want to accentuate and what areas do you want to minimize.   Most of the time I find that clients don’t even know what looks best on them.  I’ll show them a different cut or fit than they would normally choose and it ends up being something they love and is the most flattering fit for them.  Its also important to make sure clothes fit correctly, they are not too big, small or too long or short. When clothes fit properly they automatically look more expensive.

After determining the cut and fit that look best, we need to determine what clothes are most functional and practical for your lifestyle.  For instance you are not going to wear stilettos to take your kids to the park, so instead you would shop for some cute walkable and comfy shoes like sneakers or a ballet flat.   If your heading to the office you would shop for more sophisticated shoes.

Now the fun begins and you can start shopping. You walk into a department store and you are staring at 100’s of designers and brands which is completely overwhelming., How do you know what your look and style are.  Are you conservative, funky, super feminine etc. My suggestion is Imitate Imitate Imitate. Whether it is a family member or celebrity who’s style you admire, or even a catalogue from a certain store, this is a great guide to help you shop.

But your not finished yet…After you have your closet filled with clothes you need to make sure that you actually wear them and don’t reach for the usual suspects.  How is this going to happen, well Its simple, you need to plan ahead. Pick out your outfit the night before so when your alarm goes off and time is limited, the one thing that’s done is your outfit and you walk out the door looking and feeling stylish and super fabulous.

Style One Blouse 4 Different Ways!

Versatility is key to a good wardrobe.  You always want to maximize each piece of clothing by wearing it with different things and ways. Creating multiple looks with clothing in your closet will keep your fashion game on point and save you money. Thats why when I’m shopping and find something that stands out, I have to share it with you! Check out this pretty white blouse I found at Pookie & Sebastian last week.  At first glance, it seems like a simple white blouse with a neck tie.  A great blouse to have when you need to be a little more dressed up and sophisticated. But after trying it on, I saw how this one blouse could be styled 4 different ways to create 4 totally different looks. Not bad for a top that is $78, right?Check out this fabulous blouse, which for good reason, P&S named “Kai make your own neckline blouse”.

1. SEXY Let the ties hang down exposing the V neckline.

2. SLEEK Love this sleek look created by just pulling one of the ties slightly through the hole and leaving the other tie undone.

3. SOPHISTICATED A simple bow creates a smart and grown up look.

4. DRESSED UP – Add a rhinestone pin to the bow for a more dressy look.

One Jumpsuit Transformed Into Two Looks

Sometimes an outfit just isn’t quite right.  You know when you put something on and your just not feeling it, like something is missing, but it has potential?  Possibly with the right tweak you could make it fabulous.   Last week I was shopping around Bloomingdales and came across this jumpsuit by Guess. Jumpsuits are so hot right now and the color was just one of those amazing reds, it immediately popped out at me.

Guess is not a brand I often wear, and I wasn’t really sure how I felt about the front leg slits and the high waist, but for $108 it could have been an amazing find or a bomb.  When I got home and tried on the jumpsuit, before looking in the mirror, the fit seemed to be perfect.  But when I looked in the mirror something was off.  Check out below how I took one jumpsuit, that needed a little something, and transformed it to two fabulous looks.

First, I felt that the thin bra like strap made the jumpsuit look a little cheap, so I tucked that in and voila, that added a bit of sophistication.  Then since I have a short torso, I didn’t really like the high waist and long crotch, so to make each look shorter and give me more of a waist I added a thick black leather belt.   I love how this immediately cinched in my waist and almost gave it a pant and top look that was very modern and chic which I loved.  Then tried something a little more delicate and added a vintage Chanel chain belt which gave the jumpsuit a more dressy european look.

See how sometimes with a little tweaking you can really change an entire outfit.  Now I have altered this jumpsuit into two very stylish looks that would be great a cocktail or dinner party or even dinner with my Valentine.

Happy Valentines Day!

Favorite Places To Shop Online

Shopping online has become a way of life.  My mailbox is totally overloaded with emails from stores letting me know about new clothes and seasonal must haves.  I am constantly clicking on those store emails and  perusing to see what all the stores and designers are showing.   So I wanted to share some of my favorite place to shop online.

First and my favorite online store is Intermix. Especially when it comes to dresses for events, Intermix is the first place I look. Intermix is expensive, but they always have the newest designers and styles. And even though I am not spending  $400 on one top, I do a lot of window shopping here and get amazing outfit inspiration.  Also at least once a month they have serious sales of 30-40% off, so I scope out what I like online, try it on in the store (so I know my size since all sale Items are Final) and then I’m ready to purchase if it goes on sale.

Another favorite of mine is Shopbop.  Shopbop is my go to online store for everyday clothes.  They have a large selection of designers in all price points from designers like Rachel Comey and Petersyn to much less expensive brands like BB Dakota and Endless Rose. Even though they have a huge selection of clothing which can be overwhelming online, what I truly love about this site is their category “Trend Edit”.

Trend Edit breaks up their clothing into fun categories that really let you narrow down your search.  For instance they currently have ” Blouse Party”, which features all their blouses, “Rainbow Brights”,  which features all their rainbow striped pattern clothing “modern denim” shows the latest in denim trends and Hang Time which features casual lounge clothes, and this is just to name a few.  Even better is that they are now linked with Amazon Prime so you can receive clothes in 2 days for free.

Revolve is another one of my go to online stores.  This is where I look for super trendy clothing and accessories.  They too carry a large selection of brands and many that are reasonably priced . On Revolve I can always find a fun going out top or vacation dress, clothing that is more fun and not my wardrobe staples.  Revolve is definitely a great fashion resource to keep up to the minute on trends.

These are my favorite places to shop online. I would love to know what your online shopping favorites are?

Shopping For Your Body Type

I hate when people shop trends, instead of what looks good on their body. Friends tell me I look good in everything, but the truth is that I know what looks good on my body and what doesn’t.  I know to stay away from midi skirts, boyfriend jeans, and anything that has too much fabric because it swallows me up.  Women need to know what looks good on their shape.  I see so many woman walking around in clothes that are stylish, but are so unflattering on their body.   Women should know that you can’t just walk into a store and purchase what looks good on the mannequin or what the sales woman tells you everyone is buying now.  I never shop for my clients based on trends, or based on what looks good on me. Dress for your shape and size and not a trend. Check out these different body shapes below and see what styles you should be shopping for.

Apple Shape (Triangle downwards) This is generally described as “top-heavy”.

Suggested Look: I chose this red dress because it has great coverage on top and I like the black detail which I think gives a slimming affect.  The waist cinches in and the bottom ruffle draws the eye down.  The black dress is another great option.  With the sheer sleeve it still shows skin and has coverage at the same time and loose around the middle but gathers at the middle creating a waist.  And the the uneven hem is very flattering for the legs.

Pear Shape: Hips are wider than your shoulders.

Suggested look: The key is to draw the attention to the top of your body and keep bottoms on the darker and more basic side.   Avoid anything bulky on top so that you accentuate your sleek more petite upper half. This red lace dress with delicate spaghetti straps and higher waist is a great way to hide the lower part of the body.

And this black dress, although much more fitted, brings your eye to the top of the dress due to the simple bottom and more interesting top.

Rectangle Shape: Basically no significant size difference from the the shoulders, waist and hips.

Suggested look: Something that creates a waist to give the illusion of more shape. The light dress with its gathered fabric by the chest and around the hips creates the illusion of curves and a more voluptuous silhouette.  It is more fitted by the waist to bring everything in.  The red dress also creates the illusion of a waist because of the wide off the shoulder top and the flare pleated bottom.

Hourglass (Triangles opposing, facing inwards): This shape is curvy on the bottom and top with a small waist.

Suggested look: Anything that brings attention to the waist.  Embrace the shape and do not wear anything that hides it. Thats why I chose this white dress with corset middle which brings attention waist. I also love this form hugging black dress with a wide scoop neck.  Both dresses show off that beautiful hour glass shape, without being revealing.

Keep in mind these four shapes are only a general guide.  No woman’s body is exactly the same so it is really is important to know your body and build your style from there.

New In My Wardrobe

Im always looking for new things to add to my wardrobe and as a fashion blogger, it literally is my job to keep my wardrobe on point.  I love shopping so thats one of my favorite things about my job, but constantly updating a wardrobe in Winter (such a long season) can be challenging.  Sweaters seem to be the only thing practical in these freezing temperatures.  One fun place to update a wardrobe is always with a new pair of jeans.  I wear jeans everyday so finding a pair that makes my outfit feel different (wash, high, low, skinny or straight leg l etc) is something I always look for.  Intermix has a great selection of jeans so I headed there.   One brand I have been wanting to try is L’Agence and a girlfriend raved about the Margot Prime Vintage which is basically a belly button rise skinny just above the ankle length and a the wash was a clean dark blue denim with no rips.  When the package came and I tried them on, they literally fit like a glove.  Sucked in and hugged my curves in all the right places.  I also love that they are the stretch denim that doesn’t get bigger as you wear them.  Next purchase was a pair of black pants.  A good pair of black pants is a wardrobe essential.  Styles and fit usually change season to season so when I come across a good pair its always a smart purchase.  Since my day to day wardrobe is gym gear or jeans I don’t really have the need for anything too dressy.  So when a friend told me about a pair of black “sateen”pants by Rag & Bone that fit like a jean, this was a perfect pant for me.  They are a great fit and the black shiny fabric, which looks like satin, make this pant super sleek and sexy.  I am very happy with my two wardrobe additions. I would love to hear about whats new in your wardrobe?

A Simple Way To Update Any Outfit

(Fallon Earrings, Henri Bendel Rings, Bracelet)

Accessorizing with Jewelry is always a fun way to update any outfit.  Of course, real diamonds and gold are amazing, but “faux”  jewelry is an inexpensive way to take an outfit from just okay to fabulous!  Fun jewelry is something I suggest to all my clients.  Adding a necklace or bracelet can change a look completely.  The more jewelry you have to work with, the more you can change up your look.  Literally wearing a white t-shirt and jeans with a lace choker is one look and then wearing the same outfit with a great pair of hanging earrings is a completely different one.  Another thing I love about jewelry is that it is such a display of personal style and lets your personality and/or mood shine through.

This fall I purchased Fallon Monarch Leather Wrap Choker.  Fallon Leather and Diamond ChokerWhen I want an edgier look I put this on and love the way it transforms my outfit!  Some of my favorite stores to shop in for faux jewelry are Jennifer Miller, Intermix and Bauble Bar.  They have a mix of high and low priced pieces, are very good quality and always have the latest trends.  And you must check out a new favorite of mine, Dripping In Gems , for one-of-a kind handmade pieces that are so much fun to wear!  So if your anything like me, and by this time of the year totally over your winter wardrobe, go shopping for some faux jewelry for a little outfit pick me up!
